A Day in Afterschool
Arrival from School
Children are picked up at their respective schools and transported to Tobin Beaudet Schools by bus or by an accompanied walk from Newman. Teachers greet students and help them settle in after the school day.
Snack and Free Play
Children enjoy a snack brought from home while connecting with friends and teachers. This time allows them to relax and transition from the school day to the afterschool environment. Students have time to unwind through free play. They may choose board games, building activities, drawing, or simply spend time with friends before structured activities begin.
Structured Choice Activities
Children participate in structured choice time where they can explore their interests through a variety of activities led by TBS staff.
Examples include:
Active games and sports
Art and crafts
STEM activities and building
Outdoor play
Imaginative play and theatre
Reading and quiet time
Homework time
Pick-Up
Children continue exploring activities, playing outdoors when possible, or relaxing with friends until families arrive for pick-up.
Wednesday Early Release Days
On early release Wednesdays, children are picked up from their respective schools at dismissal and transported to TBS for an extended afternoon of programming and activities.
We ask families to please provide a nut-free lunch for your child on these days.
Afterschool Optional Classes
Throughout the school year we offer three sessions of Optional Classes: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each session typically runs for eight weeks and provides children with the opportunity to explore new interests and develop new skills beyond our regular afterschool programming.
While we offer many engaging teacher-led activities each day, Optional Classes provide an additional opportunity for children to try something new and help lighten families’ schedules on weekends.
Optional Classes take place during afterschool hours and follow a consistent weekly schedule. Families may choose to enroll their child in any class that interests them.
Some Optional Classes are led by external instructors, while others are taught by our TBS teachers. Certain classes may have an additional fee, while others are offered at no cost.
Examples of Optional Classes offered in the past include:
Piano
Guitar lessons
Robotics (Junior Bots, Minecraft, or Roblox)
Kung Fu with Master Tom
Art with Anna
Cooking with a TBS teacher
Gymnastics
Dance
Knitting
Pickleball
Knucklebones obstacle course
All Optional Classes have limited space and minimum enrollment requirements. If a class does not meet the required enrollment, it may be cancelled, and families will be notified.
